CHI 氣
Immersive experience & Wearable Design
Concept
Chi (氣) is a wearable device that allows user view the breathing through a changing particle system responding to his/her breath. The belt that can detect user's inhale and exhale, visualize the movement of their belly as a dynamic circle projected on the ground around them.
Process
The belt uses a gyro(MPU6050) to detect user's belly upper face's movement. Since the deep breath needs to let the air go down to the bottom of one's belly when inhale, and use belly to push air out when exhale, so the movement, like a balloon inflates and deflates, of one's belly can be observed and detected easily. In order to detect the movement, the gyro in the belt will stick to belly's upper face, when user breath, it will rotate, so the angle of gyro's rotation is an indicator of that movement. Also for the beginner(yoga practitioner), one needs to control their breath evenly and slowly, to feel that and focus on it in order to practice attention. How the angle changing, abrupt or smoothly will tell the user how they breathe.
The circle on the ground will expand and extract with user inhale and exhale. Also in order to be part of the user’s practicing, this circle contains thousands point that moves based on Perlin Noise.
